Mariah Dar joins Warren Whitney while serving as an Associate Professor of Accounting at Brightpoint Community College (previously John Tyler Community College), which falls under the Virginia Community College Systems (VCCS) umbrella. She has extensive experience in higher education; she teaches a variety of accounting classes. In addition to that, she assists with the online MBA program at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi (TAMUCC), assisting faculty in their respective management and accounting classes. Previously, she worked as a business manager at TAMUCC, where she was involved in budget development, program funding, AACSB accreditation, and the day-to-day operations of the business school. Mariah also assisted the former Dean of the College of Business, Dr. John Gamble, with updating cases in Crafting and Executing Strategy and Essentials of Strategic Management textbook (REF: Dr. John Gamble was a coauthor).
Before working in higher education, she was a junior accountant at a community action agency in Corpus Christi, Texas. In this role, she processed accounts receivable, accounts payable, budget development, and grant accounting. Her work here included reimbursements and cost allocations.
Mariah started her career in banking as a mutual fund accountant for the Bank of Montreal in Toronto, Canada. As a fund accountant, she was responsible for day-to-day accounting for the assigned funds. In this role, she was responsible for preparing timely and accurate distributions, net asset values, yields, and other fund accounting outputs to be reviewed by the portfolio managers working in private banking.
