Prior to working at Warren Whitney, Alex served as the Controller at Goodwill Industries of Central & Coastal Virginia, where he led the accounting team responsible for all accounting functions such as payroll, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, inventory, and balance sheet reconciliations. During his tenure, Alex developed a cash forecast model used by management to support capital expenditure decision-making. He also automated vendor invoice processing to reduce late payments and prepared financial reports for leadership and the Board. In addition to this, he coordinated external audits, developed Form 990 filings, and drafted requirements for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation.
Before his role at Goodwill, Alex was an Assistant Controller at Citizens and Farmers Bank, managing accounts payable, fixed assets, cash monitoring, and balance sheet reconciliations. He implemented a purchasing card program to streamline payables and expense processes, prepared quarterly Call Reports filed with the FDIC, and improved cash reconciliation processes to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
Alex’s career also includes working at Capital One, where he held leadership roles such as Accounting Manager, Principal Associate, and Accounting Analyst. He contributed to major projects like centralizing financial data systems, integrating accounting processes following acquisitions, and developing reconciliation processes for mortgage and equity loan assets. Earlier in his career, Alex worked as a Senior Auditor at Ernst and Young, conducting financial audits for healthcare organizations. He also held corporate accounting roles focused on budget management, process improvements, and financial reporting.
